Lupus Hits Hard Among Medicaid Patients

Lupus is not an equal-opportunity disease! It discriminates against minorities, and according to findings of a new study, lupus discriminates against the poor. Supported by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, the study shows the disparity in lupus and lupus nephritis incidence among the low-income population receiving Medicaid. Authors concluded that their findings indicate a need for increased resources to be allocated to this group to ensure adequate care is afforded. These results were just published in the professional publication Arthritis & Rheumatism.
