The landmark 21st Century Cures Act, H.R. 6, (#Cures2015) is expected to be voted on by the U.S. House of Representatives this week – we need the lupus community to once again step up to help make sure the bill passes in the House with an email or call to your local legislators!
The Lupus Research Institute (LRI) and the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) are proud to support the bill. We have provided extensive feedback on each draft to ensure that the needs of the lupus community are reflected in the legislation. With overwhelming support from patients, advocates, researchers, and other organizations nationwide, 21st Century Cures is intended to incorporate the patient perspective and accelerate discovery, development and delivery of new cures and treatments.
The bill recently passed unanimously by the Energy and Commerce Committee in the House of Representatives. And now it will be debated and voted on later this week by the entire House of Representatives!
For details on how the bill will provide $8.75 billion in new research funding for the National Institutes of Health over the next 5 years, or $550 million more for the FDA, see the Committee’s summary or the bill text.
Please use tools on LRI’s Legislative Action Center to quickly email or call your legislator urging them to vote YES for the 21st Century Cures Act, H.R. 6. We can’t say it often enough – lupus needs safer and more effective treatments, and legislation like 21st Century Cures will help get them.
