Affecting at least one third of lupus patients, kidney disease can cause irreversible damage that can require dialysis or transplantation. Meanwhile, several recent studies funded by our own Lupus Research Institute are finding answers to detecting and monitoring kidney disease so treatment might prevent permanent damage.
