Study: Stanford Physicians Used EMR Data to Guide Real-Time Clinical Decisions

Access to hospital electronic medical records saved the life of a young girl with lupus, informing physicians' clinical decisions. The importance of electronic medical records in clinical research was recognized by Dr. Matthew Liang in his talk at the recent LRI Forum for Discovery. Dr. Liana proposed using the vast electronic medical records afforded by the Veteran's Administration and insurance claims as a way of evaluating biomarkers as indicators of disease status in a large enough patient population.
